Mr. Cannon has served in a broad range of senior positions with public and private companies, law firms, investment banks, and the U.S. government. Most recently he is General Counsel of a private company using machine learning to develop advanced agentic AI products and services. Prior to that, Mr. Cannon was the senior in-house attorney for a public company operating a nationwide retail platform, which Mr. Cannon assisted in taking public. At the same time, he served as Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to this recent in-house experience, Mr. Cannon was with Houlihan Lokey’s financial institutions group where as a Director in investment banking he focused on bank mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Cannon was an attorney in the securities and corporate transactions groups at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Prior to that, he was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, where he advised national consumer brands as well as money center and large regional banks on capital transactions and mergers.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cannon was Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he also served as Counsel to Commissioner Paul Atkins. He clerked for Chief U.S. District Court Judge Norman Roettger, and practiced law at both Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton and Wilmer Cutler Hale & Dorr. Shortly after graduating from law school, Mr. Cannon held a position as a Professor of Law at the University of Miami School of Law. He has published a range of professional articles on securities and corporate law as well as a noted book on the practice of law.
Mr. Cannon holds a B.A. from Duke University, cum laude, a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fisk Stone Scholar, and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
